What is Laser Tattoo Removal?

There may be many reasons why you no longer want a tattoo. Maybe it reminds you of a painful memory. Maybe it has lost color or just no longer represents who you are. Regardless of the reason, breakthroughs in tattoo removal technology have helped make it feasible to lighten and maybe even eliminate unwanted tattoos completely. At Stalder Plastic Surgery in New Orleans, LA, Dr. Mark W. Stalder offers tattoo removal using a high-tech laser system. This laser energy device is known to yield better results than other tattoo removal systems and might necessitate fewer treatments.

How Does Laser Tattoo Removal Work?

Once Dr. Stalder decides that your skin is ideal for tattoo removal treatment, the tattoo will be prepped with a deep cleansing and an application of numbing cream. Dr. Stalder will pass the device over the tattooed skin as it emits laser light and pulsing energy. The treatment time varies and depends on the size and type of the treatment area. In some situations, the tattoo may require multiple sessions before noticeable results can be seen. These factors will all be discussed during your consultation.

About Us
How much does laser tattoo removal cost?

The cost of your tattoo removal treatment will depend on the total of sessions needed and the part of the body being treated. Every patient's situation is distinct, and a percentage of patients require more sessions, while others might just need a few. At your first consultation, we can talk about the estimated amount for your laser treatment plan and refer you to low-interest medical financing to make your care more accessible.

Why do I need multiple laser tattoo removal sessions?

Dimension, color, location, and the span of time you've had the tattoo all influence the number of treatments necessary to successfully erase the tattoo. At your first visit, your treatment strategy will be reviewed, and any concerns about the amount of necessary treatments may be presented at that time.

When will I see results?

The outcomes and final look of the tattoo differ from person to person. After each tattoo removal appointment, you should see the tattoo fade. Due to the various kinds of inks utilized in tattooing, the end results and the amount of treatments might differ. More often than not, a number of sessions will be required and are spaced 2 – 4 weeks between.

I had a double mastectomy with implants at Ochsner in 2021/2022. Post-surgery, I had chronic pain and my breasts were extremely hard and deformed. I was told for months that “It will get better” or “Give it a few more months”; however, the pain and discomfort never went away and I felt dismissed and unheard from my treatment team at Ochsner. I found Dr. Stalder through an internet search and made an appointment for consultation. Around October of 2022, we first met in his office where I voiced my symptoms and complaints and Dr. Stalder gave me what he thought my diagnosis was: capsular contracture. I thought he was crazy as my own plastic surgeon from Ochsner never once mentioned those words and Stalder had not even examined me. When I left, I searched capsular contracture on the internet and found that all of the photos showing this looked just like my breasts. I quickly booked the surgery with Dr. Stalder. Dr. Stalder performed my explant and flap surgery in January of 2023. I was told that I would likely need someone to stay with me for at least a week post-surgery. However, I was able to return home alone with friends to check on me for any needs. I went back to work in four weeks (six weeks is usually recommended). My second surgery to “smooth everything out and rearrange my nipples” was in June 2023. It was a same-day surgery and I was back to work in six days. I have had nothing but wonderful experiences at Dr. Stalder’s office. From Jessica at the front desk to Abbie (his PA) and most of all Dr. Stalder. He knows what he’s doing and his precision is excellent. He saved me from chronic pain and the thought that my breasts were always going to be deformed after my mastectomy. I would absolutely recommend him over and over again.
