What Happens During an Arm Lift?
Most likely, your arm lift surgery will be performed in an outpatient facility, except in cases where multiple cosmetic surgeries are being performed simultaneously. An arm lift can be combined with other surgeries (usually performed in an inpatient setting for monitoring), like a mommy makeover, tummy tuck, or thigh lift — if Dr. Stalder decides it is safe. An upper arm lift is usually performed under general anesthesia and may take a few hours to finish. The sagging skin will be surgically excised from the elbow up to the underarm. The incision will be placed to be as concealed as possible, although it will become a visible scar. If liposuction is wanted to eliminate stubborn fatty deposits, this can be performed as well. After the skin is pulled taut, it will be sutured back into place. You must keep the incisions cleaned, covered, and in compression garments.
A typical recovery timeframe may last about two weeks with lots of arm elevation. Please allow your body time to heal. You use your arms for almost everything so patients are encouraged to return to their normal routines slowly. A suture removal appointment will be scheduled approximately ten days after surgery. Compression garments must be kept on until you are released by Dr. Stalder. For at least one month, all exercise and strenuous activity should be eliminated with the exception of short walks. Can I combine an arm lift with other surgeries?
It is normal for arm lift patients to create a custom treatment plan with another surgery. This is sometimes known as an upper body lift and may include liposuction, abdominoplasty (tummy tuck), or breast surgery (breast lift). Arm lift surgery is also frequently performed as part of an after weight loss surgery for those who have lost a significant amount of weight and need full body contouring. Will there be scars?
