This patient received breast reconstruction after bilateral mastectomies due a genetic predisposition and strong family history for breast cancer. Due to the asymmetry that existed between her breasts, Dr. Stalder placed tissue expanders in the skin envelopes immediately after the mastectomies were complete. Dr. Stalder then performed an autologous reconstruction of both breasts- a transformative reconstruction using the patient’s own tissue. For this patient, Dr. Stalder used both the medial thigh and lower abdomen as tissue donor sites (thus simultaneously performing a “tummy tuck”). A second surgery was performed to fine tune the shape and contour of the breasts, as well as create nipples, which were colored by tattoo.
